6 Best Toners For Blonde Hair And How To Use It

All blondes suffer from brassy hair. A few days after coloring your hair blonde, and washing it, you notice your hair becomes more yellow or orange tone to it. What is really going on? It all comes down to chemistry. When you go from darker hair color to platinum or blonde, you have to lift dark hair by bleaching it with a mix of ammonia and peroxide. Hair is bleached when melanin, a dark brown pigment gets diluted in a process called oxidation. Then next step is applying the desire hair color.

Brassiness can occur when bleaching or lifting darker hair colors because it sometimes does not get rid of all pigment in your hair, giving the warm tones an opportunity to reveal themselves.

The best toner for orange hair will be blue, whereas the best toner for yellow hair will be purple. The best toner for brassy hair is a blue-violet toner.

  1. I used koleston no.7/0 medium blonde on my hair. I am gray now. It made my roots a med blonde/light brown but because I only do my out growth, the rest of my hair which is med. length now is a light brassy blonde whic looks very damaged probably due to dryness. Will the blue shampoo and conc. By joining help restore my hair or will I have to dye it darker again.

    1. Hi,
Thanks for commenting on my post. I wouldn’t suggest dying it darker as it might change your hair color to green and it’ll just damage it more. I would recommend using blue shampoo and conditioner. It’ll help get rid of the brassiness.Use also hair masks to treat the dry damaged hair.
      Hope this helps:-)

  2. What would you guys recommend to put on my short pixie that is a clippered #6 orange (copper) on the sides and back, and a pre-lightened pale blonde on top that has since turned grey due to purple shampoo. HELP! MY HAIR CAN NOT TAKE ANY MORE BLEACH SOAP CAPS OR PEROXIDE. THANKS, TRISH
